Rhabdomyosarcoma is a very unusual type of cancer. It occurs in children more frequently than adults. In nearly two-thirds of cases, rhabdomyosarcoma happens in children below the age of ten. It is a soft tissue tumor normally appearing in one of three locations: the head and neck region (35 per cent to 40 per cent of cases), the urinary tract and reproductive organs (25 per cent of cases) or the arms and legs (10 per cent of cases). Moreover, it may appear on the trunk. Physicians usually classify this cancer into several types based on the way the cells emerge under a microscope, although the majority is either embryonal (60 per cent of cases) or alveolar (20 per cent of cases).
