Scientists have eliminated serious pain in people with cancer by unleashing radio waves inside bone.
Tumors appearing inside bone when cancers develop may be extremely painful. The new technique, called radio-frequency ablation, releases energy via a needle inserted into bone to reach the edge of the tumor. According to study coauthor Matthew R. Callstrom of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, the radio waves produce warmth that kills tumor cells within about 10 minutes.

According to a report in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, irregular eating people consume more calories and burn them more slowly than sticking to set mealtimes. The experiment took two weeks: obese women ate their usual diets in 6 regular intervals or on a varied schedule. Women eating irregularly consumed 81 calories more each day, and burned them more slowly. They also had higher LDL cholesterol levels, and higher insulin resistance.

The tendency of Americans to losing weight is continuing. Scientists from the University of Washington, Seattle, conducted research concerning obese people who lost weight by dieting and those who lost weight after gastric bypass surgery. The aim of the study was to compare their levels of ghrelin, a hormone believed to stimulate appetite.

It is estimated that about 10% of adult patients with foot problems suffer form plantar fasciitis. It is a common disease for runners and other athletes and occurs often in persons over 40 years of age. The diagnosis and treatment of this musculoskeletal condition were analyzed by Buchbinder.
