According to scientists, people who want to keep their weight down, should switch to a vegetarian diet.

Scientists, who examined the eating habits of 22,000 people over five year period, both meat consumers and vegetarians, discovered they all gained a few kilos but meat consumers who switched to a vegetarian or vegan diet gained the least.

A new study has found that increasing levels of obesity have caused a crisis of
Type 2 diabetes in children.

The number developing so called “adult” or type 2 diabetes - which normally afflicts overweight middle-aged people - has increased 10-fold in the last five years.

According to the Toronto Globe and Mail, a recent American research findings eliminate the popular theory that taking contraceptives causes weight gain.

Scientists analyzed 44 previous studies that concluded that women using contraceptives are typically in an age group likely to put on weight. However, birth control pills are a very comfortable excuse for that weight gain.

Eric Hentges, executive director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion states that almost a half of Americans never consume a whole grain and that is why knowledge of whole grains is so precious. The government’s 2005 dietary guidelines suggest most adults to consume three one-ounce portions of whole grains every day.

Dr. Wortman arrived from British Columbia in Canada, to participate in the 2006 NMS Scientific Sessions: Nutritional & Metabolic Aspects of Carbohydrate Restriction last month and he told about his work with the population of Canadian Inuit.
