Men’s Health In Crisis
News category: Men's Health  Posted on Saturday, November 4th, 2006

American male citizens suffer from poorer health and die earlier than women, particularly if they’re minorities. It is a health crisis emphasized by a leading medical journal. This issue of the magazine was mainly devoted to the topic of  men’s health.

"Men in all socioeconomic levels are doing very little in terms of health," states David R. Williams, PhD, MPH, with the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. However, men of color - particularly low-income men - are "in particular susceptible," he claims.

Tea for Teeth

“Green” and “teeth” are two words that you meet together very seldom. However, the latest study indicates that green tea may be beneficial for your teeth. In trials, the scientists from the University of Illinois in Chicago discovered that drinking green tea may decrease the number of bacteria in the mouth that result in bad breath. In a separate research, Pace University investigators found out that the compounds known as flavorids in green tea work with the germ killers in toothpaste and mouthwash, which makes them much more effective at fighting viruses and preventing cavities. If that’s not sufficient reason to pour yourself a cup, green tea is also a perfect source of the B vitamin PQQ - the first new vitamin to be discovered in over fifty years.

News category: Men's Health  Posted on Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

Do you pay as much attention to your personal health as you do to the maintenance of your car? Ken Goldberg, MD, asks that question of all his male patients.

"Rather than advise men to have their prostates tested or to guard against heart disease, I recommend them dropping the ‘bulletproof’ attitude, getting involved in health screenings and realizing that illness can happen to anybody," claims Goldberg, who in 1989 established the first center specializing in male health.
