Is that possible that iron deficiency constitutes a key to baldness?
According to scientists at the Cleveland Clinic, the answer is positive. The investigators reviewed scientific literature on the connection published over the past forty years.
"If physicians can totally understand the association between iron deficiency and hair loss, then they can help patients re-grow hair more successfully," stated study leader Dr. Wilma Bergfeld, head of clinical study in the department of dermatology.
The data review indicates that iron deficiency may be connected with some of the most widespread kinds of hair loss. Nevertheless, evidence is not sufficient to suggest universal screening for iron deficiency in hair-loss patients and further study is necessary, the scientists explained.
The results of the study appear in the May issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.
