Ceprotin is a protein-based biologic medication fighting wit a rare clotting disorder. Recently the government has approved of this drug.
Ceprotin has been licensed by the US Food and Drug Administration. The FDA describes this medication as a concentrated form of Protein C, and thereore it can attack a genetic defect that allows potentially life-threatening blood clots to appear in the patient’s organism.
Ceprotin is manufactured by Baxter Healthcare Corp. of Deerfield, Illinois. It prevents blood clots from appearing in patients who suffer the rare Protein C deficiency. According to the latest FDA news release, clinical trials proved that Ceprotin was successful in stemming hazardous clotting in people preparing for surgery and patients who were suffering from the Protein C deficiency.
Approximately two babies in every one million births experience this deficiency, the FDA claims, hence the medication was granted "orphan medicine" status. This means that the pharmaceutical company was granted special financial incentives to develop it.
