Have you lately undertook a new job? Have you already observed that your sex drive has decreased? Have you noticed that your appetite has risen considerably? It may not be as unbelievable as it seems to be.
According to the latest research conducted by Brazilian scientists, people who work in the premises with air condition pick up an average of 2 kg annually, and have only half the libido that they had when they were out of job or worked outdoors.
"Originally, we intended to carry out our research on weight gain and inactive office work, when we observed that there was a noticeable connection between weight gain and those employees who worked in air conditioning," explained the lead investigator Dr Pedro Sirocco, from the Sao Paolo Institute of Uncritical Research.
The partakers of the research
The research included as many as seven countries in South America. It involved 2 934 men and 3 011 women, all of whom were office workers in companies employing over fifty workers. None of these employees had already stayed in their jobs for over five years and all were between twenty and thirty years of age.
The complete questionnaire comprised questions concerning such things as: working conditions, private life, sexual habits, social habits and diet.
"One of the junior data processors picked up the association between the existence of air conditioning and weight gain," dr Sirocco explained. "On further processing of the data, scientists also discovered that those working in air conditioned offices, had sex 1,6 times less frequently than their counterparts who either worked outdoors or in offices without air conditioning.
Connection with stress
"Of course, this demands further examination, however it is believed that there might be a connection between weight gain and unwillingness to leave cool air conditioned buildings over lunch time to go for a walk. Another potential correlation is between large companies and the existence of canteens, that are normally known for serving large helpings, frequently of junk food."
"Moreover, we conclude that there might be a connection between decreasing libido and the levels of stress experienced when working for big companies that have air conditioning, and, for example being outdoors picking apples."
"However, these are just premises and will be examined when extra funding comes through," according to dr Sirocco.
Three air conditioning corporations contacted by Health 24, refused to comment. And so they should, due to the fact that it is, after all, April Fool’s Day.
