According to the Tuesday report of the Associated Press, healthcare providers would like a premature baby who was born earlier than any other surviving infant to stay in a Miami hospital for several more days.
Previous reports stated that Amillia Sonja Taylor was to be released after spending about four months at hospital since her birth on October 24. A spokesman for Baptist Children’s Hospital informed that she didn’t know why physicians had changed their minds.
According to reports of Associated Press, Taylor spent less time in her mother’s womb than any baby on record who had survived. When she was born she weighed less than 10 ounces (283 grams) and was just 9 1/2 inches (23.1 centimeters) long.
Taylor was born less than 22 weeks after conception, and her healthcare professionals say that she is the first baby to survive after fewer than 23 weeks gestation. Full-term births are usually 37 to 40 weeks, the wire service informed.
Amillia has had a variety of problems - ranging from a mild brain haemorrhage to digestion problems – even though none are expected to influence her in the long-term, the AP said.
