The best method to keep an allergy under control is to eliminate any contact with whatever causes your allergy. Keep away from places where you may be exposed to allergens such as dust, dander or pollen. And whenever you get an allergy, it is necessary to see a doctor and take care of it before the allergy gets worse. Most available treatments only suppresses allergies, but not cure them.

The majority of allergies are developed early after birth and can last for a lifetime, however, some people luckily outgrow their allergies. Unfortunately, this is rare. Most allergies are seasonal and it means that they come and go with each season.

Read carefully a few seasonal tips for allergies.

WINTER

During winter the air is usually fresh and clean, however it is essential to make sure that the air in your house is clean and allergy free as well.

    * You should keep warm in the winter, but it is important to keep firewood outside as molds can give rise to your allergies.
    * Make sure you keep air filters and heating ducts clean, as dust and mites tend to grow there. Remember to change air filters every month.
    * As a pet owner you have to be sure that they are washed frequently enough. Restrict their living areas, especially do not let them enter into the bedroom.
    * Avoid going out when there is extremely cold outside. It can trigger an asthma attack. Your face, ears and hands should be covered at all times when you are outdoors.

SPRING

Spring can be a real nightmare for allergy sufferers. During spring, there is more moss and mold growth because of spring rains. The air is full of pollen because new trees, weeds and flowers start to blossom. So remember to:

    * Wash your bedding in hot water every week in order to keep pollen at bay. Take a shower every time you come back from outdoors. Do not spend too much time in the garden.
*Vacuum and dust at least once a week. Put on a mask and gloves while doing this in order to protect yourself from exposure to allergens and irritants.
    * Wash your carpets and rugs to reduce molds and dusts from forming.
    * Keep the air in your house clean by changing the vent coverings and air filters every week.

SUMMER

Summer season can also be a very perilous time for people suffering from allergies.
However, you can protect yourself if you obey the following rules:

    * Stay indoors between 5 and 10 a.m. — that is the time when pollen counts are usually the highest. The pollen count can be checked online or by calling the local allergy center.
    * Do not go out directly into the hot sun from a room with air conditioning. Sudden temperature changes can result in an asthma attack.
    * Do not dry your laundry outdoors as it catches pollen.
    * Try not to work in the garden without a mask and gloves in order to protect yourself from pollen, mildew and molds.
    * Get rid of dandelion and weeds from your garden — they may trigger allergies.
    * Make sure your pets are clean. They often play in the yard and bring allergens in the house. You should either keep your pets outdoors permanantly or clean and wash them before they come into the house.

AUTUMN

During autumn season remember to:

    * Keep your air filters and dehumidifiers clean. Wash them at least one time a week to protect yourself from molds.
    * Wear a mask when you are raking the leaves — the dust can trigger your allergies.
    * Talk to your children about their allergies. In Fall children go back to school. The kids should know what their allergies are and what to do to avoid them, even if they are very young. You should also speak to your child’s teacher and school nurse to inform them about any allergies your child may suffer from.
    * Dry your woolies in the warm sun to get rid of dust mites or molds, before the winter comes.
