With increasing population, diseases are still appearing all over the world. The exponential developement of medical science is observed in the last century and some impressive breakthroughs have taken place; for instance open-heart surgery, human organ transplants and Penicillin.

But there is still a lot to be achieved, especially to fight hereditary and genetic diseases. Polycystic Kidney Disease is also a disorder of genetic origin.

Basic information about Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD)

In PKD, lots of cysts are developing in the kidneys. They are filled with fluid. The amount
of fluid is growing until the kidneys are blocked and it eventually results in total failure.

There are three different forms of PKD:

AUTOSOMAL DOMINANT

In this form symptoms of the problem commonly occur between the age of 30 to 40, but sometimes can occur at a young age.

AUTOSOMAL RECESSIVE

ARPKD is not widespread as it is hereditary. Its indications can start at the very early age
or when a child is not born.

ACQUIRED CYSTIC KIDNEY DISEASE

ACKD is related with other prolonged dysfunctions.  It strikes people who have experienced kidney failure and are on dialysis. This is not a genetically carried disease.
