Every kind of disorder cause a risk to our health, and this is why people often worry when they are diagnosed with Heart Murmurs. Generally, a heart murmur is not claimed to be a condition or disorder, it is a natural thing that happens inside human body. It is thought that a heart murmur occurs because of the flow of blood in the heart. It is a soft sound that is made then, and initially it seems quite worrying for the ordinary person.
A stethoscope is used to detect heart murmurs. They are rated according to an appropriate grading on a scale of 1 to 6. The least audible is the first grade (1) and the loudest is sixth grade (6).
Except rating the murmur with a scale, doctors also note the position the murmur comes from. They also attempt to find out whether the murmur changes with activity of a person or position of the person’s body. These issues might be very important due to the fact that murmur’s intensity could increase, and it means that activity should be constrained to prevent the murmur from getting out of control.
INNOCENT MURMURS:
Among various types of murmurs that are recognized, a particular one is known as an ‘innocent murmur’. This results from the fact it vanishes with the passage of time. In one’s childhood it may appear and go away without any harm, and in adulthood it is prone to disappear. Children who experience a heart murmur have to be assured that they are absolutely normal as it could have a psychological influence on them. What is more, it must be emphasized that children with ‘innocent murmurs’ can participate in any type of activity that other children can. Their activities are not restricted and children shouldn’t think that they cannot run or play like their peers.
CONGENITAL HEART DEFECT:
Contrary to Innocent Murmurs, there are murmurs of the congenital heart defect type. These murmurs are likely to cause a problem and this is why they have to be taken seriously. People have to realize that except the valves in the heart causing the murmur, other structural defects may be present in there. These may vanish as a child grows. However, there are other murmurs that do not necessarily disappear and may be dangerous.
Children suffering from this type of heart problem often have the following symptoms:
* fast breathing
* problems with eating
* cyanosis- when the lips become blue
In adolescents, the symptoms include:
* fatigue
* problems with exercising or physical exertion.
A LEAKAGE:
More severe conditions of in murmurs are when the murmur appears to be calm. In some cases, the less audible murmur is more worrying due to the fact that it may indicate a greater leakage in the heart. And it means that a leak in the heart is large. This causes the blood to flow out quicker and without difficulty.
It is evident that problems with the heart are most prone to trigger problems during physical exertion. This happens probably because there is too little pressure to help the body perform. So, there could be any sort of side effects while performing in a sporty for example; the ability to deliver blood and therefore oxygen around the body in time result in one feeling faint. What is more, one may suffer from serious pains or tough attacks.
