According to the scientists from University of Cambridge, highly analytical married couples such as engineers, scientists or mathematicians may have a bigger chance than other couples to have autistic children.

Prof Simon Baron-Cohen explained in the journal Archives of Disease of Childhood, that the gene making some people analytical, may also adversely affect their social and communication skills.

Autism is distinguished by social and communication difficulties.

Baron-Cohen stated that researchers and other "systemisers" are qualified at analysing systems to figure out how they function, but they tend to be less keen on social skills. That is why they can show obsession with detail and other behaviours associated with autism.

Baron-Cohen suggested also that systemisers are more likely to pass "autism" genes and behaviours onto their kids, as they tend to be attracted to each other.

BBC News reported that some experts argue that the rise in autism is linked to increased awareness of the condition.
