When your baby starts consuming solid food for the first time, it’s an exciting moment. But in spite of the excitement, you have to be careful.

U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns that hard, round or difficult-to-chew food can stay in small airways and cause choking.

Grapes should be cut into quarters, hot dogs into sticks (not in round slices), apples and other firm fruits should be chopped into very small pieces, and hard vegetables like carrots should be cooked until soft, and then cut into small bits.

CDC also recommends to keep an eye on small kids during their meals. Eating in a hurry, putting too much food to the mouths and chewing the food incorrectly - these are typical eating habits of small children.
