1. Eat it! One time will not hurt you! Do you recognize these sentences? How many times have you told yourself something like that? The problem is, it is never “one time” only. Keeping fit is like entering a race. Your perfect body is waiting at the finish line. To get to the finish line, however, you have to eat right and exercise regularly. Desserts and second helpings always move you away from the finish line.

Keeping fit is like entering a race. Your perfect body is waiting at the finish line. To get to the finish line, however, you have to eat right and exercise regularly. Desserts and second helpings always move you away from the finish line.

2. Slim and thin people are lucky. Anyone can gain weight whether rich, poor, young, old, short, or tall. Infinite weight gain results from a daily intake of more calories than you burn off. Belief that slim and thin people are lucky (but you aren’t) stops you from executing your fitness plans. You must work hard at your fitness. The beginning of a perfect body is accepting the fact that getting in shape requires much effort, not luck.

3. How often do you tell yourself “I can’t lose weight” Ten times, a hundred times, maybe more? The first reason you have failed in losing weight permanently, is that you believe you can’t be successful. You must immediately eliminate “can’t” from your dictionary. “I can lose weight” - say as often as possible. Being convinced about possible success is the key to success.

4. I never overeat. Probably you feel you don’t eat much. You seldom eat dessert, you never drink soda, you always get your dressing on the side. You simply do not realize where that extra weight came from. You must remember that if you consume even 1 more calorie daily than your body burns, you will never lose weight. An extra 100 calories a day means 1 pound gained per month or 12 pounds per year. Create your food journal and record calories consumed in it. Caloric awareness leads to gradual weight loss.

5. It’s for my kids. How many times have you bought junk food and told yourself you were buying it for your children? While strolling down the cookie aisle, you promised yourself, this time would be different. This time you would not eat this. Don’t let your subconscious fool you. Don’t believe that empty calorie food is only for your children. That’s not true. You buy it for yourself. Don’t purchase it or you’ll eat it.

6. “Everyone puts on weight as getting older”. Many people falsely believe in that. That’s a lie. However, believing that assures you will be putting on weight every year. In the entire life, you get exactly what you expect you will get. But the truth is, that you can keep fit for all your life! Of course, some people put on weight with age, but that results from overeating and not exercising. If you believe that weight gain is an inescapable process connected with aging, you just let it happen. Change your belief immediately to, “I will get in better shape with each passing year.”

7. You will never look the same slim after having children. Believing your body is ruined after having children is another lie. Having a baby is not connected with staying overweight forever. The reason you’re still overweight years after baby arrives, is eating too much, moving too little. With the right information, you can look great even after having a baby.

8. Carbohydrates make you fat. “You should cut carbs!” is unclear and useless advice. Quality carbohydrates like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains foods are a relevant part of a healthy diet. Human body needs carbohydrates to function properly. After hearing that carbohydrates make you fat, you may have limited the quality carbohydrates, setting yourself up for mood swings, reduced energy, nutrient deficiencies, and a weight loss plan you would never stay on. The carbohydrates you should eliminate are only those in unhealthy food: those found in sodas, candy, cake, cookies, pastries, white bread, and other empty calorie foods.

9. I will have to starve to lose weight. Starvation does not work! Rigorous dieting informs your brain that your organism is lacking food. Your brain goes into “famine mode” as soon as it registers the perceived food shortage. The limited calories immediately get stored in your fat warehouse. With rigorous dieting, significant muscle is lost along with fat and water. This results in slower metabolism, fewer calories burned, and little or no weight loss. Even while ordinary dieting, your body loses some muscle tissue when you diet. If you want to lose weight without losing muscle, you should by physically active to compensate for muscle loss during dieting.

10. I have no time to exercise. Remember that your time on Earth is limited, hence, you don’t have time to achieve every goal. But you will be able to achieve every top priority objective. In your everyday life you always prioritize your goals like: shopping, watching TV, dining out. If you are convinced you have no time for physical activity, it is because you haven’t made it a priority. To make physical activity your top priority, schedule your workouts first, before you schedule anything else. Treat each training as a relevant business appointment you can’t miss. If you received $10,000 an hour for exercising, you would refuse to miss it! Making fitness your top priority is the best decision you’ll ever make.
