My friend claims she is safe, as her boyfriend always uses a condom. But does a condom really prevent viruses that cause hepatitis and AIDS?

That’s a good question. The human papilloma virus is infectious through the skin. It can be caused by contact with skin in infected areas, that are not covered by the condom.

This virus is very dangerous, as it is known to cause cervical cancer many years after the original infection. Sexual contact even with a condom in use may also result in Hepatitis.

It is not known yet if the HIV virus can be spread through skin contact. Most often it spreads through bodily fluids.

Condoms do not protect from all sexually transmitted diseases (STD’s)!
