Studying two or more subjects at the same time has several reasons. One of them, but extremely important is that they may be strongly related to one another. It is the relationship of two or more subjects that must be taken into account along with the respective matter of each of them.
By covering all that is at hand it becomes possible for a person to take a comprehensive attitude to any problem related to the subjects.
CHILD ABUSE AND MULTIPLE PERSONALITY DISORDER:
Crime and psychology are without any doubt two disciplines that have been related. Various studies concerning these two subjects have revealed various things that were unclear before. For example, it was discovered that in many cases, the crimes were related to a performer’s frame of mind.
When we regard Child Abuse as a crime, it must be emphasized that there have been lots of different types of criminals over the years. And among them, there are lots of criminals who have been diagnosed with Multiple Personality Disorder.
There is also a fact that is quite similar to this finding: many people who have suffered Child Abuse themselves in their childhood have developed Multiple Personality Disorder. It is supposed that there is a strong connection between suffering child abuse and the disorder. It is also believed that majority of people who have suffered child abuse and developed Multiple Personality Disorder, have greater chance to abuse their own children in future.
People suffering from this disorder are believed to have difficulties with discovering the disorder in their childhood; it becomes more probable to reveal symptoms as a person gets older.
WHAT IS MULTIPLE PERSONALITY DISORDER?
Multiple Personality Disorder is a disorder in which a person develops an ‘alter’ personality and is strongly influenced by it. It is thought that the alter personality occurs spontaneously.
Because of this unintentional action of the alter personality is a person acts and behaves without realizing the severity of his or her actions. It seems that the personality appears to act independently and frequently, and when a person is over with the alter personality, s/he experiences significant amnesia.
Apart from the fact that a person experienced a single ‘alter’ personality, it is proven that patients may have many more than two personalities. Each of them is able to act independently. If this takes place, the original personality doesn’t even know what the other personalities are doing at that moment.
It is also thought that children who have been terrorized normally develop the Multiple Personality Disorder. This disorder is believed to be developed as a result of the way the children are treated and the way that they learn to cope with it.
Each child develops its own coping mechanism, however there are lots of such mechanisms and each person may cope with the disorder using all of them. It might also be stated that child abuse could lead children to survive in order to become individuals that are totally different.
The way that each child is treated and the number of experiences s/he may be exposed to makes him or her develop his/her own coping mechanism. These coping mechanisms are believed to be the personalities that later develop and begin to act individually. Theoretically, a person can describe the disorder in any way.
However, it is true to emphasize that without any doubt the personalities of children change radically when they are abused. Due to the fact that there are never-ending amounts of situations in which children may be abused, it is possible for them to develop a personality for each situation.
