Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a disease occurring because of a few conditions. Cerebral palsy has an influence on the firmness of muscles as well as body movement and co-ordination. The most probable reason of the disease is damage of one or more parts of the brain. These wounds are usually caused in newborns, during or after birth. The injury to the brain prevents the baby from controlling muscular movements.
Cerebral palsy usually occurs in the following stages:
* When the baby is in the womb
* At some stages in birth
* During the first few months after birth
There are different kinds of cerebral palsy. They are classified according to the muscular impairment in the body. Some of the most common and known kinds of cerebral palsy are:
SPASTIC CEREBRAL PALSY
The most widespread occurrence of muscular disorder in babies is Spastic cerebral palsy.
It has been stated that 8 out of 10 babies suffering from the disease have “spastic palsy”. The child suffering from this kind of CP has tight muscular groups because of the injury in the brain. The muscular tightness forbids the child to move properly. What is more, such children do not have the muscular ability to lift things, so they are unable to perform general physical activities.
ATHETOID CEREBRAL PALSY
This is an infrequent kind of cerebral palsy. It strikes 10% of cerebral sufferers.
This kind of CP results from brain-damage to the certain areas of the mind — the cerebellum and basal ganglia. These areas of the human brain are responsible for maintaining a firm posture and enable the body to sustain muscular functions. They also produce signals in the body that enable people to talk, feed and perform various other activities that need the movement of muscles. Babies suffering from CP develop muscular abnormality and this may also act on resting ability and appropriate movement of a baby.
ATAXIC CEREBRAL PALSY
This kind of CP means contractions of muscles and their inability to support the body during movement. This kind of the disorder affects 5% of patients who are diagnosed with cerebral palsy. The ataxic cerebral palsy patients are unable to walk steadily and suffer from continued instability as well as anomaly of the muscular areas of their bodies.
MIXED CEREBRAL PALSY
This kind of CP takes place when injury is caused to those areas of the brain, which cause more than one kind of cerebral palsy disorder. This refers to children suffering from mixed cerebral palsy, in which a child may have two or even more conditions of CP. The most widespread type of mixed cerebral palsy includes the combination of Athetoid and Spastic cerebral palsy.
