It is believed that Propecia is a quite safe drug, and it is claimed that it is a lighter dose of what males have been using for years to treat prostrate gland swelling. In some men, Propecia with its one milligram dosage, is said to return hair growth. According to the Merck’s studies presented to the FDA, 86 per cent of males had experienced a significant hair growth.

There has been a lot of other drugs of this type that are regarded to be successful. However, Propecia is the first successful drug approved by the FDA.

The undeniable success of Propecia has been checked by studies that have diverse degrees
of success. Some studies that have concentrated on men between 18 and 41 with hair thinning and loss state that Propecia’s success is bounded and sometimes it doesn’t work with receding hairlines or at the temples. It is believed that Propecia is considerably successful with hair at the top of the head as well as with the middle front.

It is worth emphasizing that Propecia’s aim is to treat patterned baldness in males and the drug is definitely not suitable for females and children. This results from the fact that Propecia  targets a particular enzyme in the body that females and children may not have. And this is why they could respond to it in any way. However, there are also some side-effects which may affect males. Some of them complain about the decrease of libido.

Some also claim that erection is not the same as it used to be and that production of semen is reduced significantly. These side effects were affect only  2 per cent of men. However, it is obvious that if they stop taking Propecia, these side effects will also disappeared.

Women are not allowed to use Propecia, especially if they are pregnant. They should not even touch this pill particularly if the drug is in a crushed form. Such precautionary measures result from the fact that the ingredient in the pill is very active, and may cause abnormalities of the sex organs in an unborn male baby. If a pregnant woman handles this pill, she should consult a doctor as soon as possible.

Patients taking Propecia need to stick to the recommended dosage. This dosage may be continued even for three months before a visible hair growth is noticed. Moreover, it also should be emphasized that if there are no visible effects after being on Propecia for a year it is not likely that it would be successful in such a case. The period of 12 months is long enough to state if the drug is beneficial or not.

However, it is said that Propecia can only be successful if it is taken for a considerable length of time. It suggess that a person should not discontinue using Propecia earlier than after 12 months, even if there is no positive change. This is due to the fact that a person is likely to start losing hair.

As a result of the rules regarding the treatment with Propecia, it is evident that a patient would have to take this drug for at least one year regardless of the effects. This results from the fact that a patient has to wait for at least three months to notice any improvement and at the same time cannot stop taking the drug before a year has expired as it would provoke hair loss.
