According to recent study published in the December issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine, women who drink at least two cups of tea daily may reduce their risk of ovarian cancer.
“We observed a 46 percent lower risk of ovarian cancer in women who drank two or more cups of tea per day compared to non-drinkers,” said Susanna Larsson and Alicja Wolk of the National Institute of Environmental Medicine in Stockholm, Sweden. The research discovered that each extra cup of tea drunk during the day reduced the risk of ovarian cancer in study participants by 18%. The scientists examined the connection between tea consumption and the risk of ovarian cancer in 61,057 women between 40 and 76 years of age. Within 15 years, from the late 1980s when the studies began, 301 women were diagnosed with ovarian cancer. It appeared that women who drank at least two cups of tea daily were at a 46% lower risk of ovarian cancer compared with non tea drinkers.
