In patients drinking three cups of coffee a day the risk of liver cirrhosis (connected with sex, age, alcohol use etc.) was reduced by 40%. In the July 2005 issue of the Annals of Epidemiology the scientists reported that the results were exactly the same for alcoholic cirrhosis.
The study didnâ??t discover which component of coffee produces the liver-protective effect. One thing is certain, however: it is not caffeine. Coffee has also been proved to be related to a lower risk of diabetes. On the other hand, some studies suggest that drinking much coffee may increase the risk of developing heart disease.
