A new legislative idea is being considered these days. State lawmakers are going to introduce new tougher standards concerning drug compounding. Thanks to them the pharmacies will be controlled more effectively.

According to a report in the Contra Costa Times, these new regulations will be reviewed by the California Board of Pharmacy within the next few weeks. They will increase the number of inspections of compounding pharmacies. Moreover, they will require additional licensing procedures for the pharmacies.

According to a report in the Contra Costa Times, these new regulations will be reviewed by the California Board of Pharmacy within the next few weeks. They will increase the number of inspections of compounding pharmacies. Moreover, they will require additional licensing procedures for the pharmacies.

The impulse for making the standards tougher was last year’s event at Doc’s Pharmacy, an independent drugstore in Walnut Creek, California. According to the report, incorrect sterilization process in the compounding of an injectable steroid caused meningitis and the deaths of two patients. A Doc’s co-owner committed suicide.

Additionally, last month the Food and Drug Administration issued some new, more stringent guidelines for drug compounding.
